I Decided to Make this Page Because While Fixing Peoples Computers I have Found
That Most People Are Set to the "Default" Windows Screen Setting of 800 x 600

If You Have a 17 inch Monitor There is no Reason Why You Can't Run 1024 x 768
and Greatly Improve Your Computer & Online Experience
(Even When I Had a 15 inch Monitor, I Still Ran 1024 x 768)

The "Trick" is to Then Set Your "Font Size" to "Large Fonts"
(More About This Trick Later)

Changing You Screen Size is Very Easy, You Can Change it Back and Forth as Needed

The Following Instructions Will Walk You Through it! (Windows 98)

You Can Do it Right Now as You Read This BUT, Read it All the Way Once First
(or Just Print it Out)

NOTE: Some Graphic Cards Allow You to Setup "Hot Keys"
That Will Switch Your Screen Size Back and Forth With Just a Keystroke!

1) Right Click on Your Desktop (on your "background") and Select "Properties"

2) Now You Should See a Box Similar to This:

settings1.jpg (35034 bytes)

3) Now Click on the "Settings" Tab (as indicated by my red arrow)

4) Now You Should See a Box Similar to This:

settings2.jpg (31477 bytes)

5) Now Click on the "Screen Area" Slider and hold the click down,
Sliding it to the Right Till it Says 1024 by 768 Below it
(as indicated by my red arrow)

6) Now Click "OK" (as indicated by my red Dot)

7) Now You Should See a Box Similar to This:

settings3.jpg (13242 bytes)

8) This Box Says: "Windows will now resize your desktop.
This could take a few seconds, during which time your screen might flicker.
if Windows does not reappear correctly, wait 15 seconds,
and your original setting will be restored."

That Means: If Your Screen Doesn't Stop Flickering,
or Looks "Funny" All You Have to Do is Wait 15 Seconds,
and it Will Go Back to Your Old Settings !

9) Now Click "Ok" (as indicated by my red arrow)

10) Now, if it Switched ok, You Should See a Box Similar to This:

settings4.jpg (19453 bytes)

11) If Your Screen Looks ok Click "Yes" (as indicated by my red arrow)
If  Not Just Wait 15 seconds (don't click anything)
and Your Old Settings Will be Restored Automatically!

Now You Will Be Able To View MUCH More of  Web Pages
Without Having To "Scroll Down" All the Time!

Now: If You Find That it's Hard for you to Read (Text too Small)
Here is the "Trick" That Will Give You the Best of Both Worlds!

Follow These Instructions:
(same as before, to a point)

1) Right Click on Your Desktop (on your "background") and Select "Properties"

2) Now You Should See a Box Similar to This:

settings1.jpg (35034 bytes)

3) Now Click on the "Settings" Tab (as indicated by my red arrow)

4) Now You Should See a Box Similar to This:

settings2.jpg (31477 bytes)

5) Now Click on "Advanced" (as indicated by my red arrow)

6) Now You Should See a Box Similar to This:

settings6.jpg (33845 bytes)

7) Now Click on "The Down Arrow" (as indicated by my red arrow)
and Select "Large Fonts", Then Just Click "Ok" (as indicated by my red Dot)

NOTE: Later If You Feel That's Not Big Enough You can Come Back Here and
Select "Other" and Change the Size to 150 % or 200 %
But Try the "Large Fonts" First, Because the Bigger you Make the Fonts
the LESS Web Page, or "Screen Area" You Will Have!

8) Now Click "Close" on the Center Bottom
of The Box That's Still On Your Screen

9) Now Your Computer Will Say: "You must restart your computer before the new
settings will take effect. Do you want to restart your computer now?"

Click "Yes", and When Your Computer Restarts, You Will Have
The Best of Both Worlds: 1) A Larger Viewing Area & 2) Larger Fonts!

To Give You an Example: I have a 19 inch Monitor
My Windows Settings are: 1600 x 1200 (with large fonts)

This Allows Me to Have TWO Browsers Open Side by Side
Seeing the Whole Web Page in Each, Without Having to
Constantly "Scroll Down" to See The Bottom of the Web Pages!

Or if You Like to Work on Two Things at Once You Can, Without
Constantly Having to Switch Between Two Programs!

Once You Get Used to Working This Way You
Will Wonder How You Managed Before!

I Hope This Has Helped Some of You to Have a Better Online Experience!
